WIN OR LOSE THE RIGHT WAY
Travel baseball was a big part of Brock’s life. Brock was the picture of good sportsmanship and talent. Competitive but always taking the phrase –win or lose the right way-to heart. Never being the biggest player on the field, Brock definitely had one of the biggest hearts in the game. It was a given that this should be a big part of what the foundation supports. The foundation holds a Labor Day Baseball tournament that in addition to being our biggest fundraiser of the year, is an opportunity to remind players, coaches, parents and umpires that getting to be a part of baseball is a privilege and should be fun! We set out not to be the biggest tournament but the best. The tournament is held in Canal Winchester and Pickerington. We have sold out every year and even added new locations.
The foundation also gives out scholarships to travel teams at the beginning of each season. The coach is required to submit a write up about how they plan on instilling BrockStrong qualities in their team. This pushes them to learn a little about Brock and maybe look at coaching a little differently.
Terry Johnson coached Brock most of his life. After Brock passed away he continued one more year with Brock’s team. The next year he started over coaching a 9U team. Several of our board members are also involved in travel baseball. This allows plenty of opportunities at games and tournament to recognize teams with BrockStrong qualities and award them with gift cards to take their team to dinner.
